BRICK

Brick: It is used for the replacement of stone. Stone is the king of construction materials but very expensive. To reduce cost and gain the maximum strength of concrete we use brick. There is proof of gaining 3000 psi to 4500 psi strength first class brick chips concrete.

Brick

In Bangladesh the standard size of brick is 9.5” x 4.5” x 2.75” without mortar. With mortar the size of brick is 10” x 5” x 3”. Its standard weight is maximum 3.75 kg and 2.5 kg is the minimum. First class bricks should not absorbed the water of its 1/6 percent of its weight.

Components are used to make brick are given below. (Sima Akhon Asbe Mamun Lal Joba Ful Debe)

• Manganese                            5%
• Lime                                      1%
• Organic substance               1%

Field test of first class bricks:

• Its sounds as metal if hit each other.
• There is a good distribution of same color of whole brick.
• It should not absorbed over the water of 1/6 percent of its weight.
• Its color will be same after crushing.
• It should not easy to sketch with figure.
• Weight should be between 2.5 to 3.75 kg.
• Well size means regular size.
• There is no crushed part in new brick.
