Monitor:
Monitor commonly called as visual display unit (VDU). Its the main output device of computer forms images from tiny dots called pixel that are arranged in a rectangular form. The sharpness of images depends upon the number of pixel.
There are two kinds of monitor:
The CRT display are made of small picture elements called pixel. The smaller the pixel, the better the image clarity or resolution. It takes more than one illuminated pixel to form whole character, such as "e" in the word help.
Most display capable of displaying 80 characters of data horizontally an 25 lines vertically.
There are some of disadvantage of CRT.
- Large in size
- High power consumption
Flat panel Display:
The flat panel display refers to a class of video devices that have reduced volume, weight and power consumption in comparison to CRT. We can hang them on wall or wear them on our wrist, Current uses of Flat Panel Displays include calculators, video games, monitors, laptop computer, graphics display etc.
The flat panel display are two types.
- E-missive display: Plasma panel, LED etc.
- Non-E-missive display: LCD
Printer:
There are two types of printer
It prints the characters by striking them on the ribbon which is then pressed on paper.
Characteristics:
- Low consumable cost
- Very noisy
- Useful for buck printing for low cost
- There is physical contact with paper to produce an image
These printers are two types:
- Character printer
- Line printer
Character printer is divided two categories
- Dot matrix printer
- Daisy Wheel
